Slugging, high discharge temperatures, lubrication problems and electrical failures can all shut down a system quickly. The best time to think about those problems is before a critical system is already offline.
Prepare Before Peak Demand
- Check critical components such as valves, gaskets, contactors, overloads, oil levels and crankcase heaters
- Inspect for wear or contamination before peak demand
- Replace questionable parts early to avoid in-season failures
- Keep backup compressors and accessories on hand for high-priority systems
Consider the Way the System Handles Changing Loads
Variable Mass Flow (VMF) technology can also be part of the planning conversation. Beyond energy savings, VMF reduces start-up stress, maintains steadier pressures and can help address several operating conditions associated with compressor problems.
Preparation is not only about maintenance. Knowing what you are likely to need, what you have on hand and who to call can shorten the response time when a critical HVAC/R system goes down.
